Stretch Ceilings History
The story of stretch ceilings dates back to ancient times. According to the records, similar methods of providing room decorations were used in Greece and Rome. A piece of silk fabric matching the color of the walls was stretched within a rigid frame of equal size with the ceiling. Over time, the fabric sagged, discolored, and gathered dust. The solution was simple – a new piece of fabric was installed.
Another variant is the Armenian fabric ceilings of the 17th century. In Armenia, they used a thin cotton fabric impregnated with chalk and stretched over a rigid frame. When turned dry, the fabric shrank (decreased in size), and a perfectly flat surface was obtained. But chalk is not quite a reliable coating, and now Armenian craftsmen who have kept the secrets of ancient technologies use water- based paint.
In 1967, in France, an idea appeared to improve the technology of stretch ceilings. New materials played a significant role in the realization of the idea: the heavy fabric that got unaesthetic appearance within a short period was replaced by a plastic film made of lightweight polyvinyl chloride (PVC).
How it started in the Philippines
Everything started with renovation which Alexandra (owner of the company) started to do in her house and office. She got big problems with the ceiling materials: she couldn’t get the design she wanted and plus the materials which designers offering to use (gypsum or hardiflex) can’t protect from the leaks and required very long time of installation. That’s how she get an idea to bring stretch ceiling technology from Russia to the Philippines.
2016: first stretch ceiling was installed in Manila by newly trained local installers under guidance of Russian trainers. Since then, stretch ceilings have entered Philippines and start to change ceiling industry.
2018: First completed project outside Metro Manila – Koronadal, Mindanao. We go nationwide!
2019: Skyline Ceiling purchased high frequency machines which allowed to manufacture ceilings faster and in a big volume. Also, It allowed us to reduce costing and make stretch ceiling more affordable to everyone.
